In order to grow well, aloes should be planted in an open, sunny position and in fairly good soil. It is also not advisable to plant aloes right next to a wet area since these plants need good drainage or they may suffer from root rot.
Aloes are best planted on sloping ground, raised beds or rockeries - especially in areas which have heavy rains.
The best position in your garden is where it's both sunny and well drained. Remember that soil consistency is very important. If your ground contains clay, you should dig in plenty of compost to improve its structure and to make it more fertile. This will also improve drainage.
