There are many low-growing conifers which make excellent groundcovers. Particularly good vaieties include Juniperus horizontalis and Juniperus conferta.

 

Particularly attractive varieties of hardy, fast-growing conifers for windbreaks are:

  -  Monterey cypress – a dense, fast-growing variety with lemon-scented, green foliage
  -  Blue Arizona cypress – a fast-growing, pyramid-shaped conifer with blue-grey leaves
  -  Cupressocyparis ‘Leylandii’ – an attractive green-foliaged conifer which can be trimmed to make a hedge
