Medium to large shrub grown for its attractive glossy foliage and fragrant, showy, waxy flowers that appear from October to November. Double flowering forms are available. Makes a good focal point for a shade or woodland garden where the delicate flowers lighten up surrounding plants. Happiest in a frost-free environment or those that experience only light to moderate frost. Prefers areas that get good Summer rains, but can be grown in drier regions, as well as in Winter rainfall areas.
Plant in a wind protected position which gets morning sun and afternoon shade or in lightly filtered shade. Grow in rich, well-drained acid soil. Loves humidity - spray the foliage regularly. Feed at least once a month with a balanced food. Keep well watered in Summer during dry weather. Picking the blooms serves as sufficient pruning for all types. Propagates easily from cuttings. Pests and diseases: whiteflies, mealybugs, black sooty mould.
