Notes : For covering large areas of soil, especially in hot, dry situations, few plants can rival the indigenous Gazanias. The Trailing Gazania with its long, narrow, silvery-white leaves and single yellow daisy flowers which are produced almost right through the year, is an especially rewarding groundcover. The foliage coloration makes a fine contrast to plain green shrubs and smaller plants, lending light and interest to the border. The plant also grows extremely well over banks and sloping ground and in rockeries. Naturally, it’s the perfect groundcover for an indigenous garden. There are a few colour forms, including a particularly attractive pink-flowered type. Some interesting hybrids are available, including grey- or silver-leaved Gazanias like ‘Double Orange’, which has double flowers in glowing shades of orange; ‘Gold Cup’, with bright, deep yellow, single flowers; and ‘Yellow Star’, which has double, pale yellow flowers. Hybrids with green leaves include ‘Sunglow’, which has single, bright yellow flowers; the double ‘Moonglow’, with bright yellow flowers; and the deep orange ‘Tangerine’. A variegated hybrid, ‘Variegata’, is an exciting introduction which has attractive green and yellow leaves and dark yellow, single flowers.

The Gazania will grow in all frost-free areas and in those with mild frost.

It likes a sunny position with well-drained soil. Water it during periods of dry weather.
