Notes: Tubular red and orange flowers are borne directly on the branches and are rich in nectar which attracts birds and bees. The Tree Fuchsia is fast growing under favourable conditions. It has rough, grooved, pale grey bark and bright green foliage. The edible fruits are fleshy, and loved by white-eyes, bulbuls, Cape thrushes, Natal robins and fiscal flycatchers. Can be grown from seed or cuttings.

 

It grows in a variety of habitats - along streams, on mountain slopes, in deep forest and on forest margins, from the southern, central and eastern Cape to Lesotho, KwaZulu Natal, Swaziland, the eastern Free State, the Northern Province and Mpumalanga
