Notes : Genus of about 850 species. Valued for its foliage and brightly coloured flowers. Provides long-lasting colour in a window box or container. The colour range includes pink, red, salmon pink, lavender or white with some bi-colours. Some cultivars have dark bronze leaves or variegated leaves. Grow in humus-rich, moist, but well-drained soil. Needs a lightly sunnier position than Impatiens walleriana. Water regularly in hot, dry weather especially during Summer. Feed with a liquid fertiliser when in flower. Will grow all year in warm frost-free regions. In cold areas, it is grown as a Summer annual blooming from early Spring until the plants are cut down by the cold.
Growing Indoors:
Requires a sunny position which receives unobstructed direct sunlight. Needs high humidity - i.e. the air must be 80% saturated with water. Water plentifully - keep the potting soil moist at all times. Never let the surface dry out. It's an easy care plant and can be grown quite successfully with only the minimum of attention. Feed with a standard liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks in Spring and Summer.
