The indigenous Gonnabas a.k.a. Pincushion Tree (Dais Cotinifolia) is strongly advised as it is considered one of the most beautiful small flower trees. It only grows up to 5 m high in a garden, has a medium sized crown width and dense foliage. Its remarkable flowers are its most important feature. The individual flowers are small, but are grouped together in a ball-shaped bloom pattern with a 40 mm diameter – a beautiful show of pink and lilac pincushions. It grows fairly quickly and can be planted in all mild to warm areas in sand, clay soil or loam soil – even close to the ocean in eastern areas. It can resist mild frost and drought and can also be shaped.
