Notes: An ideal fast growing, informal hedging plant with shiny foliage. Most rewarding, especially in the temperate regions where it flowers several times a year. Spikes of trumpet-shaped blooms vary considerably from yellow to a fiery red to paler oranges and even apricot. All are loved by sunbirds. Wind resistant, this shrub will grow well in coastal gardens. Plant it in any soil in sun. It will grow in partial shade but will not flower as profusely. Prune the plant to keep it neat. If cut back by frost, the plant will recover quickly in spring. The yellow form seems to form a neater, less sprawling bush. Propagate from cuttings. Drought resistant.
