Notes : All the members of the large viburnum family make excellent garden plants. As the commomn name implies, it produces sweetly scented, small white flowers in early summer, but it is grown more for its glossy green, oval leaves. The sweet viburnum is quick-growing and tough, and is an ideal background plant, or can be used as a hedge or screen. It is also known as Chinese viburnum, and often sold as 'Viburnum sinense'.
Unlike other viburnums, this species is not tolerant to severe frost. It does best in the milder, frost-free parts of the country.
Plant in full sun or semi shade in well-drained, compost enriched soil. Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the summer in winter railfall regions. Once established it tolerates fairly dry conditions.
